Thanksgiving Day is a traditional Western holiday, is an original holiday created by the American people, and is also a holiday for the American family to get together.

Originally, there was no fixed date for Thanksgiving. It was decided by the states on a temporary basis. It wasn't until 1863, after independence, that President Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday.

 In 1941, the United States Congress officially designated the fourth Thursday of November as Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving holiday usually lasts from Thursday to Sunday.

In 1879 Canada's Parliament declared November 6 a Thanksgiving Day and a national holiday. The date of Thanksgiving was changed many times in subsequent years until, on January 31, 1957, the Canadian Parliament proclaimed the second Monday in October as Thanksgiving Day.

In addition to the United States and Canada, Egypt, Greece and other countries in the world have their own special Thanksgiving Day, but the United Kingdom, France and other European countries have no Thanksgiving Day. Some scholars have proposed setting up a "Chinese Thanksgiving Day" to promote traditional culture.
